In India, railway tenders are managed through a centralized digital ecosystem. Whether you are looking for national-level projects (Ministry of Railways) or state-specific Metro/Ropeway projects, the process is highly standardized.

1. Where to Find Tenders

Most railway-related procurement is handled through two primary portals:

  •  IREPS (Indian Railways E-Procurement System):This is the official portal for all 17 Railway Zones and Production Units (like ICF, CLW). It covers goods, works, services, and even leasing/auctions.
  •  Central Public Procurement Portal (CPPP): Used for some state-level railway projects (like State Metro Rail Corporations) or high-level national infrastructure.

2. Types of Railway Tenders

Railway tenders are generally categorized into three types based on the nature of the work:

3. How to Participate (Registration Process)

To bid for these tenders, you must follow a specific registration sequence:

  •  Obtain a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC): You must have a Class 3 DSC with your organizations name. This is required to sign and submit bids securely.
  •  System Requirements:Ensure you have Java (JRE) installed and use a compatible browser (like Edge in IE mode or Chrome with specific configurations).
  •  Register on IREPS:
    •   Go to "New Vendors/Contractors" on the homepage.
    •  Provide your Business PAN, GSTIN, and Bank Account details.
    •  Pay the one-time registration fee (usually around ₹2,600 for certain modules, though some sections are free).

Search & Filter: Once logged in, you can search for tenders by Railway Zone (e.g., Northern Railway, Western Railway), Department (Engineering, S&T, Electrical), or Tender ID.

4. Documents Required

When preparing a bid, you will typically need to upload:

  •  Technical Bid:Proof of past experience in similar projects, technical specifications of your product/service, and equipment lists.
  •  Financial Bid:Your price quote (often called the Bill of Quantities or BOQ).
  •  EMD (Earnest Money Deposit):A security deposit (usually 2%–5% of the tender value) paid online. MSMEs/NSIC registered units are often exempt from this.

Pro-Tip: Always check for "Corrigendum" updates. These are official changes or extensions to the tender deadline or requirements that are published after the initial notice.

Recent Opportunities (Early 2026)

Current active tenders include:

  •  Track Relaying Trains (TRT): Supply and maintenance of automated track equipment (New Delhi).
  •  OHE Modification:Electrification works in various zones like Gujarat (Rajkot) and Jharkhand (Chakradharpur).
  •  Signaling Cables:Large-scale procurement of copper signaling cables for Sealdah and Kolkata divisions.
